Dr. Shawn Taylor, PharmD, CPP

How many years have you been practicing and where did you graduate from?

I've been practicing as a clinical pharmacist in Western North Carolina for 15 years. I received my PharmD from the University of South Carolina and completed residency training at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC.

What do you enjoy most about serving Appalachian Mountain Health patients here in Western NC?

No other place I’ve practiced has matched the sense of purpose I’ve found at Appalachian Mountain Health. The team here is deeply committed to providing compassionate, unbiased care and ensuring that patients receive the highest priority in their treatment.

What is your approach to patient care?

I’m a talker by nature and never pass up a chance to truly get to know a patient as a person. I believe that what’s going on in someone’s life often matters more than what’s in their medical record.

What is one piece of health advice you find challenging to follow yourself?

Sleep hygiene! I educate patients on it daily, but still find myself drinking caffeine late into the afternoon and watching television in bed.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

My favorite restaurant in Asheville is hands down Leo's House of Thirst.

Do you have any special interests?

I serve on a nonprofit team that provides medical care to residents of rural Honduras. I'm on faculty at Wingate University School of Pharmacy and am currently completing my Master of Public Health. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, running, and spending time with my two West Highland White Terrier pups.

What languages are you fluent in?

English.
