How many years have you been practicing and where did you graduate from?
I have been practicing 15 years and I graduated from Oregon Health and Science University in 2010 with my MSN in Nurse Midwifery, and my undergraduate was BSN of Nursing at University of Texas in Austin in 2003.
What do you enjoy most about serving Appalachian Mountain Health patients here in Western NC?
What I enjoy most about serving AMH patients is the diversity of patients that we see and that we get to offer care to all people in all financial situations. I particularly love that I get to see women who otherwise may not be getting women's health care if we did not offer it here.
What is your approach to patient care?
My approach to patient care is evidenced-based education. I believe in offering information about all the options in a way they can understand and guiding them to make their own choices on their health journey.
What is one piece of health advice you find challenging to follow yourself?
One piece of health advice I find challenging to follow myself is consistent exercise. In our busy and stressful schedules it is easy to not make it a priority to fit in your week, but it feels so good when you do.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
I have many favorite local restaurants and enjoy trying new ones all the time, but some current favorites are Tall John’s in Montford and Huli Sue’s in the Grove Arcade., I am also greatly looking forward to the old Asheville favorite from years past reopening: Chorizo!
Do you have any special interests?
My special interest in healthcare is of course all things "women’s health". Outside of work I love anything outdoors and in nature, good food being cooked for me, and trying to make good food myself - including making fancy cakes. I also love any time I make time for yoga!
What languages are you fluent in?
The only language I am truly fluent in is English but I speak a fair amount of Spanish and would love to see more Spanish-speaking patients to continue to use that skill.
