BIO - Kristiana Burrell, FNP

How many years have you been practicing and where did you graduate from?

As a Nurse Practitioner, I have practiced for four years. I also have 19 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (oncology). I graduated from Chamberlain University.

What do you enjoy most about serving Appalachian Mountain Health patients here in Western NC?

Our patients from all walks of life and all financial levels. We have served anybody from homeless patients to patients who have private pay insurance and are set up with a retirement plan. I just love the variety of patients that we see; I like the fact that we never turn anybody away, and that just speaks at such a great volume. Patients can get the care that they need without having to worry if they can afford their medicine or a visit to the doctor.

What is your approach to patient care?

I love my patients and want them to know that there are people who care for them and there are people who love them and want to see them do well. If my patients have something to talk about I’m not going to sit there with my hand on the door; we’re going to talk!

What is one piece of health advice you find challenging to follow yourself?

Getting an adequate amount of sleep and managing stress levels.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Orale’s Tex Mex Bar & Grill.

Do you have any special interests?

I am really passionate about obesity management, alongside diet and nutrition. I love obesity management and trying to help patients to reach their goal weight to further prevent diabetes and heart disease. I have six children between my Husband and I, and we love spending time with our family. I also greatly enjoy reading.

What languages are you fluent in?

English.
