Bio - Tori Taylor, PharmD, CPP

How many years have you been practicing and where did you graduate from?

I graduated from the University of Florida in 2020 and have been practicing 5 years. I completed two years of primary care-focused residency and have been with Appalachian Mountain Health for 3 years.

What do you enjoy most about serving Appalachian Mountain Health patients here in Western NC?

I really enjoy the diversity of our patient population and the different perspectives that our patients offer. I have found that, unfortunately, some of our patients have not had positive experiences with healthcare providers in the past. I am grateful that, despite these prior experiences, our patients are willing to trust us with their care and build long term relationships.

What is your approach to patient care?

I believe in a patient-first approach and shared decision-making. Coming to understand who your patients are, what social and environmental factors influence their day-to-day lives, and finding out their “why” is always going to be key to optimizing their health. I also try to promote an environment focused on education and open lines of communication. My job is not to tell you what to do – it is to provide you the tools and the resources so that you feel empowered in the management of your own health.

What is one piece of health advice you find challenging to follow yourself?

I think something that is often under-discussed is the importance of taking breaks to move the body during long car rides and travel. We travel very often (usually for frisbee!) and I am often not disciplined enough to stop, walk around, and stretch—something that is very important for both physical and mental health!

What is your favorite local restaurant?

I am a huge fan of both Zambra and Soprana – I can’t choose between them, they are both amazing!

Do you have any special interests?

In practice, I am especially interested in diabetes, hepatitis, rheumatology, heart failure, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Outside of the medical world, I am an outdoor enthusiast and I compete at high-level ultimate frisbee.

What languages are you fluent in?

English.
