Dr. Jacqueline Wallowitch, DMD
How many years have you been practicing and where did you graduate from?
My journey in the dental profession began in 2016 when I graduated from Camden County Community College and started practicing as a dental hygienist in New Jersey. Over the next few years, I earned my bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University while continuing to work toward my dream of becoming a dentist. During the height of the pandemic, I applied to and was accepted at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine in Illinois. After four amazing years, I graduated with my Doctorate in Dental Medicine and found my new professional home here at Appalachian Mountain Health.
What do you enjoy most about serving Appalachian Mountain Health patients here in Western NC?
The best part about serving patients in Western North Carolina, especially around Asheville, is the people. We’re fortunate to care for such a wonderful mix of individuals: families who have lived here for generations, newcomers starting a fresh chapter, and adventurers drawn to the beautiful mountains. I love the diversity, warmth, and genuine kindness of our community. Everyone has been so welcoming, trusting and kind which makes coming to work every day an absolute joy.
What is your approach to patient care?
Not to sound cliché, but my approach to dentistry is to care for each patient as if they were a member of my own family. Every individual has their own story and journey, and I deeply value the conversations and connections I share with them. My goal is to help patients develop a positive outlook and experience when it comes to their dental care.
Dentistry is so much more than cleanings, fillings, and extractions. I’m here to help people feel confident in showing their teeth and smiling again, to restore function so patients can eat comfortably, and most importantly, to create an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and free to come as they are without any fear of judgment.
What is one piece of health advice you find challenging to follow yourself?
The health advice to “limit your daily intake of caffeine” is challenging. I LOVE espresso and energy drinks. After many years of late night studying and early morning classes, I've come accustomed to having caffeine multiple times a day. To help myself with this slight addiction, I try to increase water consumption and always take a reusable water bottle with me wherever I go. I also try to limit myself to two sources of caffeine a day.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Easy!
Indian food: Laila – Their crispy spinach chaat will blow your socks off.
Pizza: Mellow Mushroom – Amazing crust.
Dessert: Sunshine Sammies– Ice cream and cookies… Can’t get much better than that!
Do you have any special interests?
I love getting outside and golfing with my fiancé. If you ever see a couple wearing silly matching golf shirts on the course, there's a good chance it's us. I don't know how many boxes of Kirkland golf balls we've gone through, but I always say it's never a bad day when you’re out golfing.
What languages are you fluent in?
English.
